So almost all caffeine addicts are well acquainted with the various forms in which the magical substance comes – espresso, pour over coffee, cortado, latte…and cold brew. But what if you could make that final and most important form from the comfort of your own dorm room?

That is absolutely possible, and completely easy – there are various different ways in which you can make your own cold brew concentrate at your home away from home, but here is the cheapest and most accessible avenue!

First and foremost, you’re going to need the correct type of coffee grounds to create the best cold brew. Most likely, if you enter a local coffee roaster and ask them what type of grounds you need, they’ll lead you in the direction of a coarser ground – something along the lines of a French press ground. You’ll need approximately two cups of coarse grounds in order to make roughly 2 cups of cold brew concentrate.

Once you get your desired flavor and the correct coarseness, here’s where you come into the equation as your caffeine creator. You’ll need a standard sized pitcher, cold water, your grounds, a filter, a bottle, and a refrigerator.

Now that you have all of the ingredients for your concentrate, here are the steps you should take:

  • Measure 1 ¾ cups of coarse coffee grounds and pour into pitcher
  • Measure 3 ½ cups of cold water, and combine with grounds in pitcher
  • Cover pitcher, and leave sitting at room temperature for 24 hours
  • After the steeping period, pour the mixture through a fine filter and into a bottle or extra pitcher

Voila! You now have cold brew concentrate from the comfort of your dorm room – all you need to do now is refrigerate, pour, dilute, and drink!

Pro-tip: use raw sugar, and a dash of half and half, and your cold brew will be utter perfection!
